After groundbreaking success with chart-topping R&B group Day 26, Qwanell “Que” Mosley has parted ways with Bad Boy Records with the experience and determination needed to take the world by storm as a solo artist. With the release of “The Que Files,” a mixtape that exposes his true talents, Que is well on his way to becoming recognized as more than just another member, but rather an individual whose dynamic vocal abilities emerge regardless of the circumstances. His latest single, “Shake That,” is a sexy, up-tempo song, which explores Que’s energetic; yet subtle side that was often overshadowed by drama and personality clashes on Diddy’s Making the Band. Under the direction of his new management, SOUL World Entertainment, Que is now exploring his options and manifesting his dream to become a star into a reality.
Bu’Ji Magazine (BM): It has been few months since your departure from your former R&B group Day 26. Can you talk about what led you to leave?
Que: I did not leave. I received a letter that said they did not want to work with me.
BM: What do you hope to accomplish with your upcoming mixtape, The Que Files?
Que: I hope to receive respect from the fans and for them to appreciate my music.
BM: How do you expect your music to influence your listeners?
Que: There is a message behind everything that I am saying and I want the listeners to connect to the messages of the songs.
BM: You and longtime girl Dawn Richards [former Danity Kane Member] are slated for a reality show. What is the concept of the show and how will it heighten your career?
Que: The television show will be taped sometime in the summer. It will be about our love and the ups and downs [because] people think it is all glitz and glam. [It will show] that the love is real and that Black love does exist.
BM: What is key to maintaining a healthy relationship?
Que: Trust. You have to lay it all on the table. If you are trying to be in a serious relationship than you have to be honest and create that loyalty in order to maintain a relationship. Be in love with one person. I do not want to cheat on her [Dawn Richards] because I love her.
BM: Who or what are your biggest inspirations?
Que: My mother, grandmother, and family because of their support.
BM: Where do you see yourself two years from now and what steps are you taking to get there?
Que: I see myself successful. I will be a Black businessman and artist.
BM: What have you done or what do you think you can do to give back to the community?
Que: I have been doing high school tours in DC and I [encourage] students to stay in school and to get an education; I love helping people and giving back.
BM: What advice would you give to someone try to pursue a career in the music industry?
Que: Come in two-minded: one as a businessman and the other as an artist or entertainer.
BM: What is one thing someone would not know about you by listening to your music?
Que: I have some rapping skills.
BM: What is one misconception that people might have about you?
Que: That I am crazy and bipolar. I am really the most humble and nicest guy in the world.
BM: What is one thing that you absolutely cannot live without?
Que: Singing or my phone. I need my phone to handle business.
BM: If you could describe yourself in three words, what would they be and why?
Que: A nice guy. I am an artist who has an opinion and story. I want the world to hear my story because there are thousands of people going through the same thing.
BM: What is your favorite quote? What words do you live by?
Que: “If you do not believe it is not going to happen.”
